Wild mandrake, also known as American mandrake, Indian apple and mayapple, is a member of the barberry family that inhabits the woodlands of eastern North America. It is classified as a spring emphemeral, which means that it emerges in early spring and undergoes a furious growth cycle but dies back to the ground when most other forest plants are reaching maturity in mid-summer.

Although all parts of the plant are toxic, Native Americans and early American settlers boiled the root to make topical infusions.

service and surprises

I was very happy to receive my mandrake root so quickly, especially since it was sent across the country. I am using it in a class project but have yet to work with it. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the two sticks of sandlewood incense included in the purchase. The scent is amazing. I walk past my office and the scent has filled the room without it even being burned yet!

The real deal

This is some powerful stuff. I’m using it in a sachet under my pillow as part of a fertility spell, and the dreams and fears coming to the surface have been quite unexpected and revealing. This is my first time working with mandrake root and I’m so happy to have found some in this lovely shop!
