Orisha Ogun Statue

Ògún is a powerful spirit and warrior god in Yoruba religion, Santería, Haitian Vodou, West African Vodun, and the Gbe people's folk religion. He is the god of iron, war, and labor, and is also known as the "god of iron". Ògún is the owner of all technology, which he often uses for war. He is also the patron deity of craftsmen and smiths, and is a spirit of metal work, rum, and rum-making. Ògún is associated with the colors green and black, and the number 7.

Ògún is said to have been the first king of Ife in his earthly life. He is thought to have fought for the people of Ire, and is also known as Onire. When some of his subjects failed to show him respect, he killed them and then himself with his sword. He disappeared into the earth at Ire-Ekiti, promising to help those who call on his name. His followers believe that he disappeared into the earth's surface instead of dying, and have wo ile sun.

Ògún is hard, fierce, and terrible, but he is not an evil deity. He demands respect for his gift of mental implements, which are the source of wealth and victory. 5"
