Said to offer powerful protection against magic, Horehound is believed to also help maintain clarity during magical rituals. Horehound, also known as the “Seed of Horus”, is a protective herb governed by the element Earth and the planet Mercury. It was once considered the “anti-magick” herb and was revered for its ability to repel witches as well as break the power of spells; hence it was used extensively during the Middle ages. It is popular today as an ingredient in many herbal cough drops.
Horehound, also called white horehound, is a perennial member of the mint family that is native to Africa, Asia and Europe now naturalized elsewhere, including North America. Because the herb contains a high degree of mucilage, it is typically prepared as tea. Horehound is also used to make syrups and throat lozenges.
