St. John's Wort (Hypericum Perforatum) 2oz

In folklore, St. John's wort is said to ward off evil influences and protect against harmful, unseen forces. The ancients believed the plant had mystical qualities, and plants were collected for protection from demons and to drive away evil spirits. For example, St. John's wort is one of the so-called St. John's herbs, which were traditionally picked on St. John's birthday and hung over doors and windows to keep evil spirits away. St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) has been associated with the sun, Leo, Midsummer's Day, and St. John's Day. The plant's bloody red color is said to represent death and rebirth, and some use it in rituals and celebrations of women's mysteries. The plant's oil is also used in anointing rituals and exorcism.

St. John's Wort, occurs naturally throughout North America, Africa and Europe. Although this herb has gained a lot of attention in recent years, its use dates to ancient Greece. The plant gets its name from the reputation of blooming on or near June 24th, the day celebrated as the birth date of John the Baptist.

The dried herb is used in tea blends or used to make infusions, tinctures and extracts.
